In this article, we answer all your questions \u2013 based on current breeding knowledge.    <\/p>\n<h2>What do king pythons eat?<\/h2>\n<p>The royal python is a constrictor that hunts <strong>rodents and small birds<\/strong> in the wild. In home breeding, the basis of the diet is made up of: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mice (for juveniles)<\/li>\n<li>Rats (for adults)<\/li>\n<li>Multimammate (for selected individuals)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is strongly recommended to give <strong>frozen and<\/strong> thawed food (F\/T \u2013 frozen\/thawed). After proper feeding, you can see a slight bulge in the middle of the body \u2014 this is the norm. <\/p>\n<p>Too small a prey will not feed the snake and can cause refuses. Too much creates a risk of regurgitation (regurgitation) \u2014 which is very stressful for the snake and can lead to health problems. <\/p>\n<h3>How to defrost food?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Take the rodent out of the freezer 1-2 hours before feeding<\/li>\n<li>Place in a ziplock bag and soak in warm (not hot!) water for 15-20 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Check the temperature before serving \u2013 the prey should be warm to the touch (approx. 37-40\u00b0C)<\/li>\n<li>Never use a microwave &#8211; it causes uneven heating<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How to give food?<\/h2>\n<p>Use <strong>long forceps<\/strong> \u2013 never feed by hand, especially for snakes that have a strong shock reflex. Hold the rodent by the tail and gently move it, imitating a lively movement. Most pythons react to thermal movement.  <\/p>\n<p>Always feed outside the breeding box or in a separate feeding container \u2013 this reduces the association of opening the box with food (reduces the risk of accidental bites).<\/p>\n<h2>Refuses \u2014 when a python doesn&#8217;t want to eat<\/h2>\n<p>The king python is famous for its periodic refusals to feed. That&#8217;s normal! The reasons can be different:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Molting period &#8211; the snake often refuses before molting<\/li>\n<li>Mating season (especially males in autumn and winter)<\/li>\n<li>Stress (change of environment, too small hiding place, wrong temperature)<\/li>\n<li>Too big box \/ lack of security<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the snake does not eat for 4-6 weeks, do not panic. Check the breeding conditions. A good hiding place is key \u2013 snakes feel safe when their body comes into contact with the walls of the shelter. A live rodent can seriously injure a snake. In Poland, the feeding of live vertebrates is also legally restricted.  <\/p>\n<h3>What to do when a snake vomits food?<\/h3>\n<p>Wait at least 2 weeks before the next feeding and give a smaller prey. Regurgitation is a serious stress for the digestive system. <\/p>\n<h3>Can a python be overfed?<\/h3>\n<p>Yes. King pythons are prone to obesity.
