Its gentle nature, beautiful coloration and relatively low requirements make it a great choice for both children (under parental supervision) and experienced terrarists. Here are 5 steps to creating <strong>the perfect terrarium for your leopard gecko<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1 \u2013 Choosing the right terrarium<\/h2>\n\n<p>The leopard gecko is a terrestrial species, so the priority is floor <strong>area<\/strong> rather than height. The minimum dimensions for one adult are <strong>45\u00d745\u00d730 cm<\/strong> (length \u00d7 width \u00d7 height). For a couple or trio: minimum 60\u00d745\u00d730 cm.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The gecko uses the terrarium actively \u2013 it runs, looks for food, explores. A terrarium that is too small causes stress and health problems. A glass terrarium with good side and top ventilation is the standard choice of growers.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2 \u2013 Substrate safe for the gecko<\/h2>\n\n<p>This is an issue that many novice growers make mistakes on. A leopard gecko can swallow the substrate when hunting insects. Therefore, <strong>absolutely avoid<\/strong> loose sands and fine gravel \u2013 they threaten impacation (food blockage).  <\/p>\n\n<p>Safe Options:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Terrarium mats<\/strong> \u2013 easy to clean, hygienic, ideal for young individuals<\/li><li><strong>Coconut fiber<\/strong> \u2013 natural, maintains moderate humidity. Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/reptishop.pl\/en\/produkt\/podloze-kokosowe-coco-plug-12-22-mm-45kg-en\/\" title=\"Coco Plug Coconut Substrate\">Coco Plug 12-22mm<\/a> <\/li><li><strong>Special mixes for geckos<\/strong> \u2013 available in terrarium stores<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3 \u2013 Heating and temperature gradient<\/h2>\n\n<p>The leopard gecko needs <strong>a temperature gradient<\/strong> \u2013 a warmer zone for digestion and a cooler zone for resting. Without the ability to choose a place, the gecko cannot thermoregulate and gets sick. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Hot spot: 30\u201333\u00b0C<\/li><li>Cool zone: 22-25\u00b0C<\/li><li>At night: 18\u201322\u00b0C<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p>Heating mats are used for heating on one side of the terrarium, heating lamps or heating cables. <strong>Always with a thermostat!<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/reptishop.pl\/en\/produkt\/termostat-b1-dimming-en\/\" title=\"Thermostat B1 Dimming\">The B1 Dimming thermostat<\/a> is a solid choice for your gecko terrarium.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4 \u2013 Hideouts and equipment<\/h2>\n\n<p>A leopard gecko needs <strong>a minimum of 2-3 hiding places<\/strong> \u2013 at least one on the warm side and one on the cool side. One should be moist (the so-called humid hide) \u2013 it helps with molting. A box with a hole filled with a slightly damp substrate or sphagnum is enough.  <\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/reptishop.pl\/produkt\/kryjowka-do-terrarium-17x12x7-cm-rozmiar-m\/\" title=\"Hideout for terrarium M\">A terrarium hideout size M<\/a> is a good choice for an adult leopard gecko. The terrarium should also contain a bowl of water (always fresh), a bowl of calcium (for molting and replenishing deficiencies) and possibly decorations made of branches or artificial plants. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 5 \u2013 Nutrition and supplementation<\/h2>\n\n<p>The leopard gecko is an insectivorous predator. The basis of the diet are crickets, mealworms and cockroaches. The size of the insect should be <strong>smaller than the distance between the gecko&#8217;s eyes<\/strong> .  <\/p>\n\n<p>Feeding frequency:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Young (up to 6 months): daily<\/li><li>Sub-adult (6-12 months): every 2 days<\/li><li>Adults: 2-3 times a week<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>Supplementation is mandatory!<\/strong>  Insects should be sprinkled with calcium with vitamin D3 (at each feeding) and multivitamins (once a week).
